Our Journey

Established in 2011, the company services a wide and varied clientele, ranging from the resources and energy industries through to local small business. Commencing operations with just two employees, the company has grown to now employ thirty-five team members, taking pride in providing career opportunities and on the job training and education. In 2016, MFE won the Medium Employer of the Year at the QLD Training Awards, crediting the individualised, quality training programs established for each of the employees.


Early on in the MFE journey, a policy was implemented that all local permanent jobs would be filled by locals. This commitment to ensure the company supported its regional community became, and still is today, a stand out example of the drive to invest in the regional economy. 


Diversity in our team and our customers has been a strong foundation of the building blocks of the company. We continue to extend our knowledge and partnerships to continuously improve client satisfaction and employee satisfaction and to foster a culture which delivers on safety, quality and efficiency. We are safety ISO45001, Quality ISO9001 and Environment ISO14001 accredited.

We realise and appreciate the uniqueness of being a regional business and therefore make our community a priority in everything we do. Our permanent staff, live and work locally and we engage with schools, sporting organisations and other community organisations in sponsorship and offering work experience programs. 

There is passion in our team to be part of our wonderful community. We proudly assign staff time to support local and regional programs and are particularly proud of our involvement in training and education. Throughout each year, MFE welcomes high school students as part of a "taste a trade" program. We offer tours of our workshop and spend time doing mock interviews with the high school students to support them in preparing to enter the workforce.

In 2020, we were invited to join the Western Downs Indigenous trainee program of which we had indigenous trainees undertake an 8-week rotation at MFE to experience our diverse trade offerings. In return, our team have embraced the experience to welcome further diversity to the workplace.

Greg McMahon


Greg has been working in the mining, power and gas industry for the last 15 years. Much of his early training and professional development was done with a multinational mining organisation, including completion of university qualifications in Maintenance Management. This exposure has provided an excellent foundation to grow the MFE business substantially, sculpting a strong culture of safe and innovative practices. He is regularly on site providing solutions for clients and mentoring and developing the team. He is methodical and level minded, resulting in loyalty and growth in both the MFE team and its customers.

Mark Bateman

Operations Manager

Mark is a qualified Mechanical Fitter and Turner with many years of experience in the engineering, fabrication, maintenance, and oil and gas industries. Throughout his career he has successfully fulfilled a wide range of responsibilities including research and development, quality assurance, project management and the supervision and mentoring of his team. His career success to date has centred around his willingness to continually learn, innovate and challenge himself. He instils this same drive and forward thinking in those around him creating a positive team environment for his team. Mark prides himself on his quality of work and achieving results. He thrives on the challenges of the maintenance and projects industry and enjoys problem solving and providing innovative solutions

Tyson Newman

Utilities Management Supervisor

Utilities management supervisor, Tyson Newman has been practising his trade for over 10 years and is currently studying a diploma in refrigeration and air conditioning. He has specialised in commercial refrigeration with some of his key project involvements including dragline A/C overhauls, Navy transportation vessel overhauls and a refurbishment to the Townsville Civic Entertainment Centre. He prides himself on his workmanship and exceeding customer expectations through high quality work and exceptional breakdown response time. He is also driven by his industries diversity and working with customers to improve air conditioning & refrigeration performance through implementation of preventative maintenance. Being the leader of the newest MFE department, he is enjoying the challenge & rewards of growing the team under the highly regarded MFE banner.

Louise McMahon

Business Services Manager

Business services manager, Louise McMahon, has over 15 years’ experience in management positions within business across the mining sector and more recently for major contract operators. Having completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree and her CPA, she is now studying her MBA. Her position is focused on the forward planning of the MFE business managing the progression to digital platforms, alignment of practice to international standards and managing growth and capacity of the MFE team. She is an active volunteer throughout the region sitting on the Chinchilla Community Commerce and Industry board and actively representing the Chinchilla business community for the BEST group chinchilla.

Vlado Ristevski

Site & Civil Supervisor

Site and Civil Supervisor, Vlado, has more than 25 years post trade experience predominately in the mining and heavy industries. As supervisor, his achievements center around making significant improvements in plant reliability. He was also part of the successful project team working as a civil foreman on the ENI LNG Blacktip project. He acts out the meaning of “safety first” while providing cost effective maintenance solutions and challenging practices to improve efficiencies. He rapidly builds excellent rapport with customers ensuring long term and successful relations.

Micheal McHugh

Site Supervisor

supervisor, Mick McHugh, has been practicing his fitting trade for more than 30 years, mainly in regional and remote regions. He has worked across a broad range of industries from civils, construction and earthmoving to underground and surface mining and quarry fleet management & more recently in power stations and water treatment plants. What drives Mick is to take ownership and be accountable for his work and to mentor his crew to take this same approach. For him, this is the foundation of excellent safety performance, high efficiency and high quality performance. Mick builds excellent customer relationships with his forward thinking and proactive attitude and ensuring the best customer outcomes are strived for each and every job.

Jimmy O'Rourke

Project Supervisor

James (Jimmy) O’Rouke, projects and workshop supervisor, has been working in the energy and infrastructure industries for over 15 years. As a qualified Machinist, Jimmy has spent time both in the workshop and as a rig manager and understands the importance of team coordination and collaboration up and down the supply chain to deliver best outcomes for clients. He is competitive and pushes himself to succeed whilst taking any opportunity to further his learning and challenge for process improvement. He enjoys mentoring others in his team and bringing others along in their career development.
